La contribución de la economía al deporte. Un viaje de ida y vuelta

Resumen

La economía del deporte se fundamenta en los principios del análisis económico,
aunque con características distintivas debido a la singularidad del mercado de competiciones
profesionales. Clubes, ligas y deportistas se convierten en "properties" que
compiten por la hegemonía en un mercado donde la incertidumbre del resultado de la
competición genera una relación especial y peculiar entre todos ellos. Sin embargo, el
deporte es mucho más que el negocio creado en torno a los grandes eventos deportivos.
La práctica deportiva y sus beneficios para la salud, el desarrollo local derivado
de los eventos deportivos o la transformación digital de las entidades deportivas son
solo algunos ejemplos de la utilidad del análisis económico en el proceso de toma de
decisiones de empresas y entidades deportivas. En el artículo se proporcionan referencias
de las principales contribuciones en la economía del deporte, clasificadas según
áreas de trabajo.
