The Role of Social Networks in Enhancing Trade: A Regional Analysis Between Spain and Morocco

Resumen

Este artículo analiza el impacto de las conexiones sociales en el comercio, centrándose en la importancia que pueden llegar a tener en la mejora de los intercambios comerciales y la facilitación de las cadenas globales de valor. Empleamos, por primera vez, una novedosa base de datos que cubre los flujos comerciales interregionales (exportaciones bilaterales) a nivel subnacional NUTS 2, entre España y Marruecos. Concluimos que unas sólidas redes sociales permiten reducir los costes de transacción, fomentar la confianza y crear oportunidades de cooperación transfronteriza. Esta investigación pone de relieve la importancia de la conectividad social como motor del comercio y proporciona valiosos datos sobre la relación dinámica entre los vínculos sociales y el intercambio comercial a escala regional entre España y Marruecos.
