Abstract

This paper analyzes the contribution of human capital to productivity growth in Spain during the current expansion. The analysis uses growth accounting techniques and individual microdata and focuses on the impact of excessive temporality and overeducation problems of workers with higher education. The results indicate the importance of mitigating these two problems to ensure sustainable development. The resulting estimates show that, after the adjustments which were undertaken during the crisis in that direction, the current expansion is repeating the poor performance pattern of the previous expansion.
