Conflicts and Strains in the Transition towards a New Economy and Geopolitics

Abstract

The current global disorder and the complex geopolitics that underlie it are the consequence of the profound transformation that today's societies are undergoing. Evidence of such changes are conflicts in specific areas, violent confrontations, and tensions between neighboring States. This article analyzes the causes of these disturbances and conflicts and the impact they entail, which constitute unnecessary transition costs on the road to a new international order, in a new phase of globalization. The strengthening of liberal democracy and the redesign of the international institutional architecture can lead to a successful outcome in the interests of peaceful coexistence and the continuity of human progress.
